Reasons you may decide to enroll in Medicare in 2024:
You were born in 1959 and so will be turning 65 in 2024. If you are working for an employer with more than 20 employees and you are covered by employer group health, you may elect to continue working past 65 and continue to be covered by employer group health. In that case, you do not have to enroll in Medicare. If that is not the case, enrolling in Medicare is a must to avoid late enrollment penalties that will follow you for the rest of your life on Medicare.
You worked past age 65 but are planning to leave your job where you are currently covered by employer group health. In this case, certain forms have to filed with Social Security that will give you access to a Special Enrollment Period, allowing you to enroll in Medicare and avoid a late enrollment penalty.
Whatever your situation, if you will be in enrolling in Medicare in 2024, be sure to contact me at least three months before your birth month or three months before leaving employer group health so that I can walk you through the Medicare enrollment process. My job is to make this transition as smooth and painless as possible and ensure you do not suffer late enrollment penalties that can occur when things are not done correctly. I look forward to helping make your transition to Medicare a pleasant trip!
